Railroad tank cleanup
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is entering the final phase of a hazardous waste cleanup on Oreland Mill Road. The Tank Car Corp. was a railroad tank car rehabilitation company that operated in Oreland throughout the 20th century but is now defunct. Tank cars were buried underground to hold chemical waste from the fabrication, cleaning and painting of the working cars, and some of this has leaked out into the surrounding soil.
