The Tank Car Corp. was a railroad tank car rehabilitation company that operated in Oreland throughout the 20th century but is now defunct. Tank cars were buried underground to hold chemical waste from the fabrication, cleaning and painting of the working cars, and some of this has leaked out into the surrounding soil.
The Fort Washington Fire Co. lost a veteran volunteer firefighter and 70-year member when George Haggar died of congestive heart failure at Abington Memorial Hospital March 13.
